By Corey Stout<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n With\u00a0President Biden signing into law\u00a0the $1.2\u00a0trillion\u00a0<\/span>bipartisan infrastructure bill\u00a0on Monday<\/span>,\u00a0state and\u00a0municipal\u00a0agencies\u00a0will begin\u00a0vying for the funds\u00a0that will enable them to begin planning, designing, and constructing\u00a0projects to improve their communities. The\u00a0law\u00a0features $550 billion in new federal spending\u00a0over five years for transportation\u00a0programs and other infrastructure.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n These\u00a0programs\u00a0will\u00a0improve transportation for many communities and\u00a0create new job opportunities along the way.\u00a0Funding\u00a0includes:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Among other\u00a0funding, the\u00a0law\u00a0also\u00a0includes $65 billion for broadband investment, $55 billion for water infrastructure,\u00a0and\u00a0funds\u00a0to modernize the country\u2019s power grid.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In my\u00a025 years of experience as a civil engineer, I\u2019ve witnessed\u00a0firsthand\u00a0both improvements\u00a0in\u00a0our transportation infrastructure as well as the\u00a0poor state of roads and bridges\u00a0that\u00a0haven\u2019t been fixed\u00a0due to\u00a0a lack of funding.\u00a0This new legislation, however,\u00a0will allow\u00a0much-needed infrastructure improvements and repairs to be completed, and is being hailed by construction, engineering, and transportation groups across the country.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
