By Richard Vedvik<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A\u00a0<\/span>mass notification system<\/span>\u00a0provides life-saving information to building occupants and\u00a0<\/span>can help improve the safety and security of an organization by providing alerts and real-time instruction during a crisis.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The MNS can provide alerts for\u00a0<\/span>various<\/span>\u00a0notifications,\u00a0<\/span>including general information, child abduction, active shooter,\u00a0<\/span>severe weather, and traffic warnings or accidents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>But<\/span>\u00a0before you install an MNS in your building, a risk analysis should be performed to determine your needs and requirements for the system.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The steps for conducting a risk analysis of your facility are defined in\u00a0<\/span>NFPA 72 Section A.24.3.12<\/span>.
