The automotive sector moves at a very rapid pace, so<\/span>\u00a0engineering designs for new facilities need to come quickly to meet manufacturers\u2019 milestones for their production goals. This often results in<\/span>\u00a0utilizing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the faster-to-market\u00a0<\/span>design\/build project delivery<\/span>\u00a0method.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While all delivery methods have inherent risks and rewards depending on the type of building, o<\/span>wners of automotive research and development facilities<\/span>\u00a0need to be particularly vigilant about the unique risks that design\/build can present.\u00a0<\/span>This is a due t<\/span>o the <\/span>uniqueness,\u00a0<\/span>technical\u00a0<\/span>complexity<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and customization\u00a0<\/span>that is inherent to R&D\u00a0<\/span>facilities<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 many of which have\u00a0<\/span>never been designed or priced before.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many variables come into play for these one-of-a-kind projects. Owners need to ensure that their chosen delivery method results in a design that\u00a0<\/span>meet<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0the predicted needs of the research and provide<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0a controlled testing environment.<\/span>\u00a0In particular, the design\u00a0<\/span>for R&D facilities must:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
