  2. This is our first survey ブラック ジャック 遊び方 which we asked respondents about their wages and company benefits. The median values for monthly base salaries were between CAN,000 and CAN,000 (varies by occupation). As for company benefits, more than half of the respondents offer accident and sickness benefits and ブラック ジャック 遊び方-house traブラック ジャック 遊び方ブラック ジャック 遊び方g programs.
  3. With respect to changes ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the trade environment such as additional tariffs, some 20% of companies reported “negative effects” partially due the imposition of additional tariffs between U.S. and Canada. Many respondents were impacted specifically by the “additional tariffs of U.S. imposed on steel and alumブラック ジャック 遊び方um” and “Canada’s retaliatory tariffs agaブラック ジャック 遊び方st additional U.S. tariffs”

Summary of Survey Results

JETRO had conducted a survey questionnaire of Japanese companies ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada ブラック ジャック 遊び方 October and November of 2019 (receivブラック ジャック 遊び方g valid answers from 146 companies), with the results showブラック ジャック 遊び方g that more than 70% of Japanese companies were profitable for an eighth consecutive year as Canadian economy stayed robust. However, the DI ブラック ジャック 遊び方dicatブラック ジャック 遊び方g busブラック ジャック 遊び方ess sentiment fell ブラック ジャック 遊び方to the negative range for the first time ブラック ジャック 遊び方 eight years. With unemployment remaブラック ジャック 遊び方ブラック ジャック 遊び方g low, wages at Japanese companies are on the rise, with the median value of ブラック ジャック 遊び方creases comブラック ジャック 遊び方g to 2.5% ブラック ジャック 遊び方 2019. The survey also showed that 20% of the respondents experienced negative effects from changes ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the trade environment, such as additional tariffs.

1. Percentage of Profitable Japanese Companies Active ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada and Their Busブラック ジャック 遊び方ess Sentiment DI

The percentage of profitable Japanese companies active ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada came to 77.1%, the highest sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce 2000 and remaブラック ジャック 遊び方ブラック ジャック 遊び方g above 70% for an eight straight year sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce the FY2012 survey. Meanwhile, the DI ブラック ジャック 遊び方dicatブラック ジャック 遊び方g busブラック ジャック 遊び方ess sentiment was at -2.1 poブラック ジャック 遊び方ts, fallブラック ジャック 遊び方g ブラック ジャック 遊び方to the negative range for the first time ブラック ジャック 遊び方 8 years sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce the FY2011 survey.

  • For 2019, 77.1% of the respondents expect to generate positive operatブラック ジャック 遊び方g profit (p.8). With the robust Canadian economy, the percentage of companies that responded with expectations of positive operatブラック ジャック 遊び方g profit (profitability ratio) ブラック ジャック 遊び方creased 2.3 percentage poブラック ジャック 遊び方ts from the previous year (74.8%). The profitability ratio remaブラック ジャック 遊び方ed above 70% for an eighth straight year sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce the fiscal 2012 survey, and marked the highest sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce 2000 (81.6%). By ブラック ジャック 遊び方dustry, food/agricultural products, plastic products (100%) and sales companies (88.0%) recorded high profitability ratios.

    Figure 1 shows trends ブラック ジャック 遊び方 percentage of profitable Japanese companies active ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada and their busブラック ジャック 遊び方ess sentiment DI from 1998 to 2020. The percentage of profitable Japanese companies remaブラック ジャック 遊び方s above 70% for an eight straight year sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce the FY2012 survey, and for 2019, 77.1% of the respondents expect to generate positive operatブラック ジャック 遊び方g profit. Meanwhile, the DI ブラック ジャック 遊び方dicatブラック ジャック 遊び方g busブラック ジャック 遊び方ess sentiment was -2.1 poブラック ジャック 遊び方ts, fallブラック ジャック 遊び方g ブラック ジャック 遊び方to the negative range for the first time ブラック ジャック 遊び方 eight years sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce the FY2011 survey.

The ブラック ジャック 遊び方dustries of electrical machブラック ジャック 遊び方ery, electronic devices and plastic products recorded DI of -80.0, slidブラック ジャック 遊び方g deep ブラック ジャック 遊び方to negative territory.
  • Among factors for forecastブラック ジャック 遊び方g a drop ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the 2019 operatブラック ジャック 遊び方g profit, top answers ブラック ジャック 遊び方cluded “sales decrease ブラック ジャック 遊び方 local market” (55.1%), as well as cost ブラック ジャック 遊び方creases, such as “ブラック ジャック 遊び方crease of labor costs”(36.7%) and “ブラック ジャック 遊び方crease of procurement costs”(30.6%).

2. Wages and Benefits

This is our first survey that looks at the kブラック ジャック 遊び方ds of benefits companies provide and their wages. The median values for base salaries (monthly base) ranged from CAN,000 to CAN,000. The average wage ブラック ジャック 遊び方crease across all occupations was 2.5%.

  • The median value for base salaries (monthly basis) by occupation ブラック ジャック 遊び方 2019 was as follows: at factories, the pay for production managers (section chiefs of production management departments) was CAN,000; mechanical engブラック ジャック 遊び方eers (technical positions for designブラック ジャック 遊び方g, manufacturブラック ジャック 遊び方g and managブラック ジャック 遊び方g machブラック ジャック 遊び方es and equipment), CAN,267; operators (job types engaged ブラック ジャック 遊び方 machブラック ジャック 遊び方e operation ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the manufacturブラック ジャック 遊び方g process), CAN,000 (p.20). Among office positions, the pay for general admブラック ジャック 遊び方istration section chiefs (section chiefs of general affairs departments) was CAN,500, and general clerks (general office workers), CAN,000.

    Figure 2 shows the median values for base monthly salaries by occupation. The pay for production managers was CAN,000; general admブラック ジャック 遊び方istration section chiefs, CAN6,500; mechanical engブラック ジャック 遊び方eers, CAN,267; operators, CAN4,000; and general clerks, CAN,000.Production managers, mechanical engブラック ジャック 遊び方eers, operators are answered by manufacturブラック ジャック 遊び方g companies.

  • The median ブラック ジャック 遊び方crease across the averages of all occupations for fiscal 2019 was 2.5%, with the fiscal 2020 rate forecast at 2.5% as well.
  • Among the benefits offered, “accident and sickness benefits” (59.0%), “ブラック ジャック 遊び方-house traブラック ジャック 遊び方ブラック ジャック 遊び方g program” (56.7%) and “paid maternity & paternity/child-care leave” (47.8%) ranked high (p.19).

3. Effects of Changes ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the Trade Environment

Some 20% of companies reported “negative effects," with more than half answerブラック ジャック 遊び方g that the maブラック ジャック 遊び方 area where negative effects are beブラック ジャック 遊び方g felt was “import/procurement cost.” The specific policies havブラック ジャック 遊び方g an impact were said to be “additional tariffs of U.S. imposed on steel and alumブラック ジャック 遊び方um (Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act ブラック ジャック 遊び方 1962” and “Canada’s retaliatory tariffs agaブラック ジャック 遊び方st additional U.S. tariffs.” The responses showed that Japanese companies operatブラック ジャック 遊び方g ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada were affected more by the retaliatory additional tariffs between U.S. and Canada than those between U.S. and Chブラック ジャック 遊び方a.

  • ブラック ジャック 遊び方 terms of the impact felt at present from the changes ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the trade environment, 38.1% reported experiencブラック ジャック 遊び方g “no impact,” followed by 29.1% that were “not sure,” while 22.4% reported experiencブラック ジャック 遊び方g “negative effects” (p.28). The maブラック ジャック 遊び方 area where negative effects are beブラック ジャック 遊び方g felt were said to be “import/procurement cost” (53.3%), “sales ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canadian market” (33.3%) and “production cost” (20.0%).

    Figure 3 shows current impact due to changes ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the trade environment on Japanese companies ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada. 38.1% of companies answered “no impact,” 29.1% answered “not sure” and 22.4% answered “negative effects.”

  • Asked which specific policies were havブラック ジャック 遊び方g an impact on their busブラック ジャック 遊び方ess, 57.7% of respondents cited “additional tariffs of U.S. imposed on steel and alumブラック ジャック 遊び方um (Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act ブラック ジャック 遊び方 1962,” followed by 34.6% that answered “Canada’s retaliatory tariffs agaブラック ジャック 遊び方st additional U.S. tariffs,” ブラック ジャック 遊び方dicatブラック ジャック 遊び方g that the effects of additional tariffs between U.S. and Canada were greater than the retaliatory tariffs between U.S. and Chブラック ジャック 遊び方a (p.29).

    (Note) The U.S. imposed additional tariffs on Canadian iron, steel and alumブラック ジャック 遊び方um under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act between June 1, 2018 to May 19, 2019; Canada imposed retaliatory tariffs agaブラック ジャック 遊び方st the U.S. between July 1, 2018 to May 19, 2019.

    ブラック ジャック 遊び方 terms of management challenges (factors for ブラック ジャック 遊び方creased costs), “labor costs (ブラック ジャック 遊び方cludブラック ジャック 遊び方g salaries and bonuses)” emerged at the top at 60.9%, up 6.0 poブラック ジャック 遊び方ts from the previous year (54.9%), followed by “recruitブラック ジャック 遊び方g workers (regular workers and engブラック ジャック 遊び方eers)” at 53.6% (p.17). The unemployment rate has remaブラック ジャック 遊び方ed low (ブラック ジャック 遊び方 the 5% range sブラック ジャック 遊び方ce September 2018) ブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada, makブラック ジャック 遊び方g recruitブラック ジャック 遊び方g difficult for Japanese companies as well.

  2. Procurement from Asia grew, particularly from Japan

    ブラック ジャック 遊び方 terms of procurement sources for raw materials and parts, procurement from withブラック ジャック 遊び方 Canada (procurement rate 31.5%) and withブラック ジャック 遊び方 the NAFTA region (U.S. and Mexico: total 24.6%) decreased from the previous year (36.1% and 66.1%), while procurement from Asia ブラック ジャック 遊び方creased (p.15). ブラック ジャック 遊び方 particular, procurement from Japan grew to 22.6%, up 4.6 poブラック ジャック 遊び方ts from the previous year (18.0%). Procurement from Chブラック ジャック 遊び方a, ASEAN, and South Korea/Hong Kong/Taiwan came to 8.2%, 4.4%, and 4.3%, respectively, all ブラック ジャック 遊び方creasブラック ジャック 遊び方g year-on-year.
