カジノ ブラック ジャックives Lecture on International Business Law at Sophia University

November 2024

On November 18, 2024, Deputy Director Shiga Daisuke of JETRO's Digital Marketing Department gave a lecture on "Geopolitical Risks and Global Supply Chain Development" カジノ ブラック ジャック Professor Morishita Tetsuro's International Business Law course.

The lecture was based on Deputy Director Shiga's experience at JETRO’s Mexico office, where he handled the expansion of sales channels in Mexico amid export restrictions on agricultural, forestry, and fishery products implemented by other countries. He discussed how Japanese companies, the Japanese government, and government-affiliated agencies should respond in cases where specific countries implement import bans. Following the lecture, the students engaged in discussions on this topic.

Deputy Director Shiga talks about cases related to JETRO Mexico and JETRO’s activities.

During the discussions, the students presented proposalsfrom various perspectives for coping with import restrictions, including: “have local businesses that are partnering with Japanese companies work with the local government to take steps against the countries with the import bans,” “have international scientific institutions conduct objective surveys to advocate for the relaxation of regulations and standards,” “find new export destinations and appeal the safety of the products, and carry out branding,” and “form supply chains at multiple bases and send technical specialists to develop human resources.”

Deputy Director Shiga gave feedback on their ideas while talking about the steps that he actually took while on-site, saying, “As every country has developed its supply chains globally, it’s possible that you may end up doing business with countries that you don’t directly see in a transaction.” “It is difficult to change the policies of countries that implement import bans. Such bans may affect nations that are friendly to the country that imposed the ban. So approaching neighboring countries is also important.” “Products that are similar to those that are locally distributed will lose out in competition, so raising the brand value of Japan is an effective measure.”

Comments from the students included: “It was meaningful for us to have discussions about challenges and solutions based on cases that were in the news.” “We were able to learn about the perspectives necessary to carry out international transactions.” “We deepened our understanding of JETRO’s activities and support programs for Japanese companies by learning about actual cases.”

Many students took part in the discussions

After the lecture, The Sophia Times, a newspaper operated and published by students, interviewed Deputy Director Shiga. He talked about how he spent his student days, his career, and JETRO’s activities.

JETRO intends to keep up its efforts to promote the further development of international business by sparking an interest among students throughout Japan and by demonstrating the importance of international business.
