September 2024
From September 9 to 20, 2024, JETRO Yamagata and Yamagata University held an intensive series of lectures to think about strategies for exporting products made in Yamagata.
Eight students split up into two groups to take part in lectures, discussions, and company visits, focusing on traditional crafts, such as “Shinjo Higashiyama-yaki” pottery from Shinjo City, Yamagata Prefecture, and pesticide-reduced apple juice.
Yamagata University, Yamagata Prefecture, and JETRO held introductory lectures on international business. The students visited companies in the prefecture to interview them about the issues they confront and their expectations for overseas markets. On the last day of the course, students gave presentations to the companies that produce and sell the products.
The companies praised the presentations, saying, “We want to apply their ideas to our business,” “We want to do what they said right now,” “They’ve made proposals just like professionals in such a short period of time.” Some of the students who participated said they felt good to know their opinions were applicable to real-world business.
JETRO intends to keep up its efforts to promote the further development of international business by sparking an interest among students throughout Japan and by demonstrating its importance.
Students are learning about product stories from President Wakui of “Shinjo Higashiyama-yaki” pottery.
Discussions with President Sato of the producer of “Ringorillappa Organic Apple Juice.”
