Chato is a tea manufacturing company located in Shizuoka, founded in 1977. We inherit the venture spirit of the company founder, and we tackle various challenges and problems with ambition and determination.

In order to build a sustainable Japanese tea business model, we are focusing on vertical integration of our supply chain, from tea farms to final products.

With the rapidly growing demand for matcha worldwide, we expect our overseas sales amount to account for more than 60% of our total sales this fiscal year. Currently, we export tea to approximately 20 countries, mainly to the United States and Germany, and are aiming to expand our sales channels to new markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and India.

Chato is focused in establishing a vertically integrated tea supply chain, from farm to final product managed under the global food safety management system. During the changing trend of times, we have treasured the philosophy "Fueki-ryukou", which means to keep the immutable, unchanging essence and at the same time, be fluid to change with the changing times.

In 2018, we formed an alliance with organic producers in Shizuoka and established Shizuoka Organic Matcha Co., Ltd. (SOMA). The alliance help support farmers by ensuring purchase of everything they produce at the price agreed within the alliance. SOMA members have meetings to share information such as market demand, quality, and organic farming skills. SOMA operates an Organic Matcha facility, which is one of the largest in Japan. Under strict quality control measures, SOMA processes the teas farmers make into matcha, to be sold worldwide.

Chato is compliant with the global food safety management system standard FSSC 22000, and also have JAS certification and USDA/NOP certification for organic products, HALAL and Kosher certification for religious regulations, and Rainforest Alliance certification for a sustainable society.
